Parent Educator Programme
The programme is about being involved in your children’s learning and development at the centre and at home. It is an opportunity to learn more about your children, how to recognise, respond to and extend their learning and to learn strategies for providing positive guidance.
You will be employed and working at the centre for one morning or afternoon per week, either 9.00 to 12 noon, or 12 noon to 3.00pm as well as attending a training session one morning a week from 9.00am to 12 noon. The programme is facilitated by the Lead Educator and focuses on advancing your understanding about working with children.
We have a small group of parents participating and learning in a fun, relaxing, friendly and supportive environment together.
Quotes from some of our parent educators:
“Parent programme offers opportunities for small or large families, all races and ages. It gives parents time to get to know what is best for your kids and work with a range of different societies (along side) learning as you go. Meeting new people, going places. Giving you opportunity to work with others. Getting support along the way. Make you feel your important. Uplifting spirit and gives courage when needed. Letting you know that we are all hear to learn and encourage our whanau and kids. Learning about different cultures. Everything we talk about is confidential. Feel like your home. Parent group encourages me to want to learn more.”
“Learning to understand and communicate with my child better. Being able to talk about issues with my child among friends and have support. Being on the programme has given me a better understanding of children’s development.”
