Our Centre

Curriculum

Ko Te Aroha Children’s Centre is committed to a programme that meets the individual needs of all children. All plans will be linked to Te Whaariki (the NZ early childhood curriculum). The programme will provide opportunities for development of physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social skills.   Your child will be part of a small group of children allocated to a teacher who is responsible for providing experiences and opportunities to learn and develop that meet their interests and needs. She will develop a profile book for your child which will contain assessments in the way of stories about their learning. Your child’s artwork and photos of them will be included and any stories or pictures you may have from home. These stories will also be available to you to view on our website link – “Family – parent portal”. You can share them with family and friends that you choose who may live out of town.   Parents will be encouraged to be involved with their child’s learning and development by spending time at the centre, participating in excursions or being part of our parent educator group.   Your child’s day will be a mixture of routines, play and organised activities or events. There will be ample opportunities to explore and experiment. Mat times and meal times provide a more structured aspect to the day. Indoor/outdoor flow is constant where children can choose to be inside or outside in our beautiful natural environment, providing ample space for learning how to ride a two-wheeler. Excursions into the wider community are a regular feature each term and spontaneous walks around the neighbourhood. Use of information communication technology is available by way of computers and IPads. Children are encouraged to inquire and explore through many stimulating activities offered to them that will include development of early literacy, numeracy and scientific concepts.
